Housing and Landlords

Housing and Landlords

East Village is made up of homes managed by several different landlords and housing providers. While the neighbourhood looks and feels cohesive, responsibility for homes, buildings, and resident services varies depending on who owns or manages your property.
This page explains the main housing providers in E20, what they’re generally responsible for, and where to go first when something needs attention.

Who manages homes in East Village?

East Village includes a mix of private rental, shared ownership, and privately owned homes. The main providers you’ll come across are:
  • GetLiving - the largest landlord in East Village, managing most rental homes and many shared neighbourhood services.
  • Triathlon Homes - a housing association providing affordable and social housing.
  • Notting Hill Genesis - a housing association managing a range of affordable and shared ownership homes.
  • Chobham Manor - a separate residential community made up primarily of privately owned homes.
Each operates independently, with its own systems, contacts, and responsibilities.

What your landlord is usually responsible for

While details vary by provider and tenure, landlords are typically responsible for:
  • The structure of the building and shared areas
  • Repairs and maintenance covered by your tenancy or lease
  • Building safety, access systems, and communal security
  • Managing contractors for major works
If an issue is inside your home or relates to your building, your landlord is usually the correct first contact.

What landlords are not responsible for

Some services sit outside landlord control:
  • Council services (waste collection, parking enforcement, schools, planning policy) are handled by the London Borough of Newham
  • District heating billing is managed by East London Energy
  • Private utilities you’ve chosen (internet, TV, contents insurance) are your responsibility
If you’re unsure who to contact, your landlord can usually point you in the right direction.
